Founded and curated by Marva Griffin Wilshire, SaloneSatellite was established by Salone del Mobile.Milano in 1998 to support emerging designers under 35 at the beginning of their careers. Bringing young creative talent into direct dialogue with the international furniture industry, it has since welcomed more than 16,000 designers from 60 countries, alongside design schools and universities from around the world.

The SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection brings together products by former participants that have since entered production with Italian and international companies. Now comprising more than 400 works, it traces SaloneSatellite’s role in shaping contemporary design and connecting emerging talent with industry.

The SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection Exhibition (1998–2026) now makes its Southeast Asian debut in Jakarta as part of an ongoing international tour, following presentations in Hong Kong and Osaka. Featuring 55 retrospective works, the exhibition explores how ideas first presented at SaloneSatellite have evolved into manufactured design objects.

Salone del Mobile.Milano

Launched in Milan in 1961 as a vehicle for promoting Italian exports of furnishing and accessories, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile is the global benchmark event for the furnishing and design sector. The Salone is held in Milan in April every year, along with the biennial Euroluce exhibition in odd years and EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition in even years, and in tandem with the annual International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and Workplace3.0. These events are flanked by FTK (Technology For the Kitchen), EuroCucina’s collateral event and S.Project, the exhibition devoted to design products and decorative and technical furnishing solutions. Since 1998, the trade fair has been rounded off by SaloneSatellite, the launchpad for young designers and a point of reference for companies on the look out for new talent.
