Wendell Castle: Living

Friedman Benda presents Wendell Castle: Living, a solo exhibition reimagining the Scottsville, New York home of American sculptor and furniture maker Wendell Castle and ceramist Nancy Jurs. Curated by their daughter, Alison Castle, the exhibition takes inspiration from a 1973 House Beautiful feature documenting the couple’s home, where furniture, ceramics, art, and everyday life were closely intertwined.

The exhibition recreates elements of the kitchen, bedroom, living, and dining rooms, bringing together works by Castle and Jurs alongside domestic objects from the home. Several pieces pictured in the original article and not publicly shown since are included, alongside major works spanning Castle’s six-decade career.
