LOOKOUT — a New Lighting by Coil + Drift at Colony

Coil + Drift, the New York-based furniture and lighting studio, presents Lookout, a new exhibition of lighting by founder and designer John Sorensen-Jolink, debuting at Colony. Bringing together two new collections, Touch and Strut, the exhibition explores contrasting experiences of illumination: light that directs the eye toward a single point and light that expands outward to envelop its surroundings.

The title Lookout refers both to an action and a landmark: the act of watching, searching, and seeing from a distinct vantage point, as well as a setting that invites pause and reflection. A lookout may focus attention on a distant point through a spotlight, lighthouse, or pair of binoculars, or open the eye to an expansive horizon. In either instance, the view contains information. The sun and shadows reveal time and direction; leaves signal the season; wind indicates what may be approaching.
