For London Design Festival and Shoreditch Design Week, The Hoxton, Shoreditch teams up with design gallery and studio Slancha for Travel Light, a celebration of emerging design talent and new ideas around travel, objects and contemporary living.
Developed from an international open call that received more than 200 submissions from over 20 countries, the exhibition brings together 12 works spanning furniture, lighting, textiles and material innovation. Designed to be packed, collected and lived with, the pieces offer playful takes on the objects and rituals of travel, from a flat-pack lamp and a vase cast from a British water mains cover to a pocket-sized ice cream spoon and a sculptural interpretation of the hotel matchbox.
Participating designers include Josh Page Studio, Jake Robertson Studio, Omi Collective, Katia Lyubavskaya, B.C. Joshua, THISISBYRON, Maxim Lester, D.V. Lierop, Studio Ojo, Lewis Duckworth and George Exon. The collection will be available to buy from the Hox Shop throughout the festival, alongside a still-life installation in the hotel lobby featuring furniture and objects from Slancha’s wider creative community.
The programme also includes a Hox Talks conversation hosted by Duncan Riches with Finn Thomson and Freya Bolton of Mitre & Mondays, exploring making, regenerative materials and designing for disassembly, as well as a free workshop with George Exon inviting visitors to create their own fridge magnets.
