Gallery FUMI, in collaboration with the Royal College of Art, presents AFTER SCHOOL, an exhibition bringing together recent graduates and alumni working across textiles, ceramics, and design. The title refers to the moment of transition between education and professional practice, with the gallery providing a platform for emerging makers to present new work during London Design Festival.
The exhibition reflects a longstanding connection between Gallery FUMI and the RCA, with many of the gallery’s represented artists having studied there. Rather than being organized around a single theme, the works are linked by an interest in process, material, and experimentation. The focus is less on commercial presentation and more on giving emerging practitioners a serious context in which to introduce their work to a wider design audience.

About
Gallery FUMI
There were fewer specialist galleries, fairs and rather less of an audience for unique and limited edition design works, when Sam Pratt and Valerio Capo decided to open Gallery FUMI in 2008. Both came from non-design backgrounds (banking and marketing respectively) and the only driving factor in their inception of this project was pure and unadulterated passion, not to serve the market, such as it was, but to invest in the people making the work.
