Developed by the Royal College of Art’s MA Design Products programme, One Tool, One Stool presents the first design exercise undertaken by every student at the start of their studies. Working within strict constraints, students create a stool using a single tool, encouraging experimentation, resourcefulness and new approaches to making.
Presented as part of Brompton Design District’s Perfectly Imperfect theme, the exhibition foregrounds process over outcome, showing how limitations can become catalysts for creativity.
Alongside it, the RCA Graduate Showcase presents work by graduating MA Design Products students. Together, the two exhibitions trace the journey from an introductory exercise to ambitious final projects shaped through research, iteration and experimentation, offering a view of both the beginnings and culmination of the programme.
