Made in Situ

For the first time, the Mobilier national presents the entirety of the Made in Situ project, developed over nearly seven years by designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance. For this occasion, the artist has transformed all of the gallery's spaces to offer a unique multi-sensory immersion into the heart of its collections.

Here, design transcends the mere search for forms: it becomes a sensitive narrative. It is a creative path nourished by exchange, observation, and listening, giving rise to works deeply rooted in their geography and their time.

In 2017, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance chose to settle in Portugal. To take a break, to step back and gain a better understanding of his surroundings. After traversing the territories, exploring their layers (geological, cultural, social) and meeting local artisans, the Made in Situ project was born.

To date, seven collections have been created between Portugal and France. Through raw materials such as wood, earth, metal, stone and wax, a whole world of encounters and traditional know-how comes to life, close to the landscapes and those who shape them.

Going against the grain of an era sometimes disconnected from its environment, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance anchors his practice to better open it up to the world: observing, understanding, then collaborating by taking a step aside.

Gestures, materials and stories interact to demonstrate that popular know-how, far from belonging to the past, offers concrete answers to the major challenges of the century: sustainability, the relationship with nature and the reconquest of production on a human scale.
