Knock on Wood

Opening May 13 at Egg Collective's Tribeca gallery, Knock on Wood brings together a powerful group of contemporary artists exploring wood not simply as material, but as myth, memory, and meaning. The show is a meditation on chance, ritual, and the deep-rooted kinship between maker and matter—inviting us to see this humble, ancient medium through a reverent, modern lens.

At a time when extractivist mindsets still dominate the design industry, Knock on Wood proposes an alternative: a return to slowness, intimacy, and the sacred nature of craft. Featuring works by Natasha Alphonse, Joshua Vogel, Hildegarde Haas, Julian Watts, and others, the exhibition leans into the spontaneous beauty of wood grain and the quiet power of objects made with intention.
