We Must Imagine It, by Unfold Projects at ICA SD/ North

ICA San Diego and Unfold Projects, are pleased to present 'Exhibition 01: We Must Imagine It'— the first iteration of an exhibition series exploring regenerative materials and processes in art and design from May 30th - August 2nd, 2026.

'We Must Imagine It' gathers together 20 regionally based artists and designers, each a member of Unfold’s 'Guild'—a curated collective of practitioners dedicated to regenerative design and natural material practices.

Beyond their individual disciplines, these contributors played a central role in realizing Unfold’s first 'Edition' in Encinitas. Completed in April 2026, the Edition is a collaborative restoration and design project originally engineered by Kendrick Bangs Kellogg; designed and developed by Shanna Kellogg and Pat McGriff.

The exhibition acts as both a showcase of their individual practices and a reflection of their shared work on this inaugural site. It is an emblem to their collective knowledge, craft, and experimentation that shaped the project that fosters a broader mission: To elevate regenerative approaches to design and production as well as to inspire a paradigm shift toward more conscious, materially grounded forms of creative development and realization.

As part of ICA San Diego’s and UNFOLD PROJECTS commitment to contemporary art, community connection, and forward-thinking creative dialogue, this exhibition invites audiences to engage with new ideas around sustainability, collaboration, and the future of making.

Opening Night is on May 30th from 4-7pm PST at ICA SD /North. The evening includes includes a musical performance by Emily Elbert, a curated natural wine bar by Shrieking Meemies and a site-responsive edible installation by PADMA that extends the exhibition into a living food landscape.
