I am excited to share that citizenM New York Bowery is teaming up with the American Design Club – a Brooklyn-based organization founded in 2008 that acts as a platform for emerging and independent product designers – for “One Night Stand: What We Bring to Bed” during NYCxDesign Festival from May 14-20.

The exhibition explores the objects, rituals, and identities that shape our space as we prepare for sleep:

Nap: Formed from felt, this bedside catchall was created by Brooklyn-based artist Mimi Kirmaci, who has worked with Ralph Loren, MoMA, Guggenheim, and more

Tilt Table: Made of wood, the Tilt Table was created by Detroit-based artist Ryan Kahen (recently featured on Detroit Design Magazine)

Kiwa Tray: Using a surface derived from Kiwa, ash is dispersed and collected into ever-changing traces in this bed-side tray. This piece comes from award-winning Korean industrial designer Bumki Song.

Another Star, the hospitality operator behind citizenM, has worked with over 140 artists across its international property portfolio. Previous design collaborations have included a FriendsWithYou Room takeover at citizenM Miami World Center and an open-call collaboration for four original pieces of in-room art for the opening of citizenM Miami South Beach., including LA-based visual artist Austin Call and Barbadian contemporary artist Akilha Watts.

About

American Design Club

We started in 2008 as designers creating a platform for other designers in our community during the Great Recession. What began as a series of exhibits and themed shows to champion American designers quickly gained momentum. As it grew, we realized something: designers deserved a better version of what a representation company could be built from designer to designer. Since then, we’ve continued to evolve, producing exhibitions, presenting at trade shows, and constantly seeking out fresh thinking from emerging and established voices alike.
