DESIGN STARTS ON PAPER

During this year's 3 Days of Design, Copenhagen's Paper Island becomes home to DESIGN STARTS ON PAPER – a new exhibition concept exploring the intersection of architecture, interiors, automotive culture and contemporary Scandinavian design.

The first edition brings together Hem, Baux and Blond alongside special guests Porsche, Aarke and The New Era Magazine in a collective environment shaped by materiality, atmosphere and timeless aesthetics.

At a moment increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence and digital acceleration, DESIGN STARTS ON PAPER intentionally takes the opposite position — rooted in intuition, process and the belief that the most meaningful ideas begin not with optimization, but with a simple sketch on paper.

About

MBSY™ LAB & STUDIO CHRISTINA

Curated by Markus Schiffer (MBSY™LAB) and Tom Gädtke (Studio Christina), with support from Danish architect Nicolai Richter-Friis, the project emerged through a shared appreciation for design, craftsmanship, atmosphere and automotive culture — connecting brands, designers and collaborators through a common visual and emotional language. "DESIGN STARTS ON PAPER reflects the belief that the most meaningful ideas rarely begin with algorithms or optimization", says Markus Schiffer, Founder and Creative Director of MBSY™LAB. "They begin with intuition — with a line, a thought, a sketch on paper. We wanted to create a physical and human-centered space where architecture, design and automotive culture naturally connect through shared values rather than trends." Ultimately, DESIGN STARTS ON PAPER proposes a different pace and perspective within contemporary design culture — one rooted not in immediacy or visual noise, but in clarity, emotion and enduring form. Because lasting design does not begin with data. It begins with a line. On paper.
