TABLEAU presents the first solo exhibition by the design studio HYSTERIA – ‘Construction Ceremony’.
Pil Whitta is the architect and creative mind behind HYSTERIA. For the exhibition she has created a ceremonial space where rough industrial elements, that are typically used in building construction, meets the detailed language of fine wood working. By doing so she aimed to create a ceremony that celebrates the tension between rough and fine, machine made and handmade, industry and human.
She has always had a huge fascination with tie plates and steal brackets - simple construction elements that holds most of our buildings together. They are usually hidden, not meant to be seen, they are made out of function rather than form – they contain an unintended beauty. For the exhibition she wished to applaud these standardized metal elements in her furniture pieces, not as decoration, but as functional elements, tying together each piece.
