NYC’s design festival is upon us from May 16-20. One of the epicenters of the city’s creative energy is Dumbo. With more than 160 design firms operating in its small footprint, Dumbo has one of the biggest concentrations of design talent in NYC and most likely beyond. The neighborhood was designated a design district by the city last year. This year, it is revealing a new identity - by the renowned architecture firm Snohetta - and a big line up of events to highlight the collective creative power of this small neighborhood.
Highlight events include:
-
Snøhetta will be unveiling Dumbo’s official design district logo inspired by its architecture, and the firm’s new 25,000-square-foot HQ.
-
Design journal, Untapped, will present a dance performance choreographed by Morgan Griffin with live music by Esther Sibiude and costumes by Emily Grey, to celebrate the release of its Print Edition 004.
-
DUMBO-based BIG will celebrate its new book, BIG Atlas.
-
Fifth edition of the Inside~Out design fair organized by Kin & Co which will feature designs by 30+ independent design studios.
-
One of the city’s younger crop of design galleries, Zarolat will present a new exhibition called PIT ROOM that brings together a group of practitioners, including Dace Sūna, Nancy Russell Mona, Piccoli Smalti, and Michele Simonetti, exploring form, function, and materiality.
-
Design store Hudson Wilder will host Phaidon’s Design Books Library during the course of Design Week

About
Two Trees Management and the DUMBO Business Improvement District
Two Trees Management Company is a family-owned, Brooklyn-based real estate development firm best known for its singular role in transforming DUMBO from a neglected industrial waterfront into a vibrant mixed-use community, as well as the ongoing creation of the Domino campus on the Williamsburg waterfront. Two Trees owns and manages a real estate portfolio worth more than $4 billion, including more than 4,000 market and affordable-rate apartments and over 3 million square feet of office and retail space in New York City. Since its founding in 1968, Two Trees has operated under the fundamental belief that successful neighborhoods offer a wide variety of uses and attract diverse groups of people and that developers must play a fundamental role in cultivating livable streetscapes, because people prosper when neighborhoods bloom. In addition to the residential and commercial buildings across DUMBO, Williamsburg, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Hell’s Kitchen and Flatiron neighborhoods, other notable projects include Domino Park, The Plaza at 300 Ashland, The Refinery at Domino, River Ring, The Wythe Hotel, and Jane’s Carousel.
