Rooted in an ongoing investigation of material culture, TO THE GROUND reflects Gregory Beson, a Brooklyn-based sculptor and designer's quiet but rigorous approach to form, proportion, and process. Examined through the lens of COUP D'ETAT, a San Francisco-based design gallery, the exhibition brings together 14 varied pieces, including seating, consoles, credenzas, coffee tables, and sculpture.
For this exhibition, Beson worked closely with the COUP D’ETAT team to thoughtfully adapt his catalog in ways never before realized for a single gallery presentation. Together through shared values and collaborative conversations, they refined each piece to highlight material integrity and proportion. Wood species were reconsidered — including walnut slabs and white oak from mills in Pennsylvania, paired with hand-selected textiles including natural bouclés and richly textured weaves in earth-toned neutrals, emphasizing grain, density, and tonal variation.
