Celebrated French-American designer Sophie Lou Jacobsen is set to unveil her second exhibition at Milan Design Week, this time in tandem with Giulia Nardi of COSE Journal, a new, independent Milanese art and design publication, and with the participation of American-Italian photographer Adrianna Glaviano.
Brought together by the itinerant, collaboration-forward organization CONTRIBUTIONS Design, this partnership propels a creative vision that delves into the profound impact of objects as tangible conveyors of emotions and meaning.
Titled "Passaggi" (“Passages” in Italian), and on view at art gallery Spazio Martín, the exhibition challenges conventional perceptions of everyday objects by presenting a selection of their mirror-images – the objects themselves – translated into glass forms. Through these reinterpretations, these commonplace items are removed from their utilitarian context and their essence is exposed, inviting viewers to explore – in a Proustian-like fashion – the deeper layers of memory and sensory experience that entangle our emotional interior.
“Passaggi” is the second initiative ideated by CONTRIBUTIONS Design, following the inaugural edition of the eponymous festival that took place in Paris in the fall of 2023, counting Jacobsen amongst its participants.
Driven by an ambition to amplify artists and designers’ endeavors, CONTRIBUTIONS is proud to bring Jacobsen, Nardi and Glavianno’s voices together for this conversation of aesthetic ideologies. Each of these women has a talent for infusing personal narratives and vulnerabilities into their projects, which, although individual, resonate on a universal level.
During the bustling week of Salone, “Passaggi” aspires to offer visitors a contemplative pause, a moment of suspended magic.
