Friends Artspace is delighted to open our fourth season with Beginner’s Mind, a group exhibition that explores the Buddhist practice of Shoshin: coming to the world open and without preconception.

The artists presented, all ex-babies themselves, imbue their work with the wonder and fantasy of the original mind. They conjure colorful, compassionate utopian worlds. The artwork in Beginner’s Mind touches on sublime play, safekeeping, daydream, chance, interspecies friendship, and humor.

The exhibition brings together the unbound beginner’s minds of AJAC Studio, Autumn Casey, Chiara No, Courtney Krings, Dave’s Clubhouse, Emily Counts, Eve White, Ficus Interfaith, Francesca DiMattio, Fred Smith, Hoesy Corona, Jessica Speckhard, Lara Emerling Grace, Matthias Merkel Hess, Maxime Siau, Michael Ezzell, Nienke Sikkema, Saelia Aparicio, Sam Klemick, Sarah Murphy, Trey Jones, and Ya Wen Li.
