Evolving Forms

St Vincents is pleased to present the first solo show and new collection Evolving Forms on Dec 5 by Paris-based design atelier goons, founded by fashion designer/creative director Mia Kim—who honed her skills at Hermès and Chanel—and architect Paul Trussler —who developed his craft by maquette-making alongside Frank Gehry and then leading his own architectural studio. The studio’s works, much like those of Donald Judd, emphasize the inherent strength and appeal of reclaimed and humble materials like plywood, stripping them down to their essence while exploring a vocabulary of volume, form, and utility, which has been built up over time and through practice. Often inspired by the spontaneous needs of Mia and Paul’s daily life as a couple raising a young family, the pieces are deeply pragmatic, precisely crafted and inherently joyful. “The name goons is rooted in our strong desire for simple solutions,” says Paul. “Judged lightly these solutions might be considered dumb, even rudish, yet there's a strong philosophy and quiet sophistication behind each piece.
